General Transfer Scholarship Information
If you are planning to transfer to a four-year institution, you should contact the institution for deadlines for Admission and consideration for any Transfer Scholarships. Some universities have applications for transfer scholarships listed on their websites. Most of the deadlines are January 1st through March 1st.
Jacksonville State University now has an online scholarship application for their transfer scholarships. The deadline is March 1st. You must have applied for admission and have a 3.5 grade point average. The application can be found on the JSU website.

Wallace State’s President will select scholarship recipients to the following schools based on academic achievement and service to the college and the community:
University of Alabama
University of Alabama in Birmingham
University of West Alabama
Applicants, who wish to be considered must meet GPA requirements, have completed an admission application to the transferring school and plan on enrolling at that school for the upcoming Fall term.
Quick Facts about these awards:
University of Alabama – This scholarship will be awarded to one WSCC student graduating with an Associate’s Degree. GPA requirement is 3.0. Scholarship is for two years if required GPA is maintained. Value over $17,000.
Deadline for application is February 17.
University of Alabama in Birmingham - UAB Honors Scholarship – This scholarship will be awarded to one graduating WSCC student. GPA requirement is 3.5. Scholarship is $1500 for two semesters and can be renewed for a second year.
Deadline for application is March 15.
University of West Alabama – WSCC students wishing to transfer to the University of West Alabama can apply directly to UWA if their GPA is 3.25 or above by completing UWA’s Scholarship Application found on the UWA website. WSCC students with a GPA below 3.25 but above 3.0 should complete the WSCC Transfer Scholarship Application and submit to the WSCC Financial Aid office by the deadline for consideration.
Deadline for application March 15.
Transfer Scholarship packets are available in the Financial Aid Office and must include:
- Cover letter to Wallace State Community College President, Dr. Vicki Hawsey, requesting consideration for the award
- WSCC transcript
- Two letters of reference
- Scholarship application
- Resume’ stating activities, community service, work experience, honors and awards
Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services
Vocational Rehabilitation Service (VRS), the largest division within the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, helps Alabamians with disabilities achieve independence through employment. VRS provides specialized employment- and education-related services and training to assist teens and adults with disabilities in becoming employed. In addition, VRS works with middle schools, high schools, junior colleges and universities statewide to assist students with disabilities in receiving appropriate educational opportunities.
Great Lakes National Scholarship Program
Great Lakes Educational Loan Services, Inc. is offering $2,500 scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students enrolling in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) programs. Up to 750 awards will be granted to qualified students from across the country.
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s scholarships are designed to encourage and support outstanding students from 7th grade through graduate school who have a breadth of interests, work hard, demonstrate a strong will to succeed, and have financial need.

Leadership in Child Care Scholarship - Deadline: June 1 for fall semester and September 1 for spring or summer
This scholarship provides financial assistance (tuition and selected fees) to qualified child care professionals working in child care centers/programs, and family and group homes to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Short-Term Certificate, Certificate, or Associate in Applied Science/Technology Degree in Child Development/Early Care and Educational studies. Scholarship recipients must reside and work in Alabama.
Linly Heflin Scholarship - Deadline: January 10, 2014
The Linly Heflin Scholarship Committee grants four-year scholarships in the amount of $3,000 per year to a limited number of Alabama women who have both significant economic need and sound academic records.

National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Student Loan Repayment
The program offers primary care medical, dental, and mental behavioral health providers the opportunity to have their student loans repaid while serving in communities with limited access to care.

WSCC Alumni Scholarships
The Wallace State Alumni Association offers up to eight scholarships each year ranging from $250 - $2,500 each. These are available each semester and are not renewable. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework at WSCC; Must be a full-time student at the time of application and maintain at least half-time status to retain the scholarship; Must have a 2.5 or higher GPA; and Volunteer in the Alumni Office once per semester during the year to assist with alumni events.
WSCC Foundation Scholarships - Deadline: June 15 for fall, November 1 for spring, and April 15 for summer
The Foundation promotes equity accessibility and excellence in education. The Future Foundation's most important goal is to provide scholarships to students whose educational needs cannot be met by their current resources. Through private giving, various scholarship funds have been established to help meet these needs.
