Wallace State’s athletic teams and facilities are renowned throughout the Southeast and the nation. The Wallace State Lions compete in Division I of the Alabama Community College Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association. With four Olympic medalists, six national championships, 15 ACCC All-Sports Trophies, numerous conference titles and hundreds of All-Americans, athletic excellence is a Wallace State tradition.
Wallace State coaches are not only among the nation’s best, but they also take great pride in the academic success of their athletes. Special tutoring and study sessions are available for all athletes to ensure excellence in academics as well as athletics. Wallace State teams are recognized among the top teams academically by the NJCAA, and many student athletes receive Academic All-American honors each year.
The athletic facilities at Wallace State are among the best in the nation and truly impressive. Tom Drake Coliseum is one of the largest two-year college basketball and volleyball facilities in the United States, with seating for more than 5,000. The college’s baseball, softball and soccer facilities are among the finest in the South.
Wallace State has crowned three ACCC Region XXII state champions (volleyball, men's basketball and softball) during the 2009-10 academic calendar year. The volleyball team won its first title under third-year coach Randy Daniel, the men's basketball program won its first championship in March and Jayne Clem's softball team captured its fourth straight championship in May.
Wallace State’s athletes also have access to state-of-the-art training through the Wellness Center, which houses an extensive weight room, treadmills and cardiovascular equipment, racquetball courts, basketball and volleyball practice courts, batting cages, aerobics and cheerleading rooms, men’s and women’s locker rooms, classrooms, and offices.
