The Wallace State soccer program is approaching its fourth season under the leadership of head coach Barry Spitzer. Spitzer served as an assistant coach for the Lions in 2005 before taking over the helm in 2006.

Spitzer has compiled a 44-9-1 record in his first three seasons after leading the Lions to a 15-3 mark during the 2008 season.

Spitzer's club was also successful in the classroom in 2008. The Lions compiled a cumulative 3.16 grade point average, which was the best mark nationally for any soccer team in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Wallace State returns seven players from last season to coincide with another strong recruiting class and a couple of key transfers. The Lions' roster this season consists of natives from Ireland, England, the Wales, Canada and Australia along with 18 Alabamians, three Florida natives and one from Louisiana.

The Wallace State soccer program has also enjoyed some recent additions to its home field, including a new set of metal bleachers to accomodate approximately 200 people and a wooden structure to cover the benches and sidelines for both the Lions and their opponents.
