Wallace State and the Common Read will welcome Garth Stein, author of this year's Common Read Selection, The Art of Racing in the Rain, to the Wallace State Campus on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 9:30 a.m., in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre.  Stein's appearance will be a combined event for Common Read and Learning Communities.

Garth Stein is the author of four novels, including his latest, A Sudden Light. The Common Read selection, The Art of Racing in the Rain, was a New York Times and international bestseller. He is the co-founder of Seattle7Writers, a non-profit collective of Northwest authors working to foster a passion for the written word. He lives in Seattle with his family.

The eighth annual Common Read program is gearing up at Wallace State. The choice for 2016/2017 is The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. A work of fiction, The Art of Racing in the Rain shares the story of racecar driver Denny Swift from the perspective of his dog, Enzo. During their time together, Enzo has gained tremendous insights into the human condition and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques need on the racetrack, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals.

Wallace State will welcome Mr. Stein to campus on Oct. 19. We hope you will join us for that and future Common Read events.  Keep an eye on the WSCC calendar for Common Read announcements. We would love to have 100% participation in the Common Read Program. Happy reading for 2016!
