Wallace State Community College-Hanceville offers a variety of scholarships. The appropriate scholarship committee reviews all completed scholarship applications.

Students must be an Alabama resident and U.S. citizen to qualify for any scholarships except athletic and private scholarships.  Recipients of athletic scholarships are required to be U. S. citizens.

Presidential Scholarships are available to students majoring in an academic field of study at WSCC. Presidential Scholarships are based on a combination of the ACT composite score, the cumulative grade point average, and an essay. ACT plus grade point average must equal 30 (e.g., ACT 27 + GPA 3.0 = 30). The essay should be no more than 500 words and should be based on why you feel you are deserving of a scholarship and what you hope to accomplish as a result of receiving this scholarship.

Academic Excellence Scholarships are available to students majoring in an academic field of study at WSCC. Academic Excellence Scholarships are based on the ACT composite score, cumulative grade point average, an essay, and two letters of recommendation. ACT score plus grade point average must equal 27 (e.g., ACT 24 + GPA 3.0 = 27). The essay should be no more than 500 words and should be based on why you feel you are deserving of a scholarship and what you hope to accomplish as a result of receiving this scholarship.

Leadership Scholarships are available to students majoring in an academic field of study at WSCC. Leadership scholarships are based on a combination of cumulative ACT composite score, cumulative grade point average, an essay, two letters of recommendation, and documentation of outstanding leadership and community service. ACT score plus grade point average must equal 24 (e.g., ACT 21 + GPA 3.0 = 24). The essay should be no more than 500 words and should be based on why you feel you are deserving of a scholarship and what you hope to accomplish as a result of receiving this scholarship.

Performing Arts Scholarships are awarded through the audition process. Auditions are held during the spring semester. Contact the Music Department at 256/352-8277 for dates and application procedures.

Allied Health and Nursing Scholaships are available to students majoring in health care programs at WSCC. These scholarships are based on the ACT composite score, cumulative grade point average (3.0 or better), involvement in clubs and organizations, and/or volunteer experience in a health-care environment. If your chosen field requires a minimum ACT score, your ACT score must be equal to or exceed the required minimum score. All Allied Health and Nursing Scholarship recipients must meet all admissions criteria for the chosen field of study. Scholarships will be voided if the student is not formally accepted into the chosen field of study.

Career/Technical Scholarships are available to students majoring in a technical field of study at WSCC. Career/technical scholarships are based on technical achievement. If awarded a scholarship, you must take 75% of your classes in your major field of study. Additional academic classes may be taken toward an A.A.S. degree in the technical field.

First-Year Gateway Initiative Scholarship
is available to first-year students at WSCC who have completed at least one semester of coursework at the time of application.  This scholarship is based on a cumulative grade point average, an essay, and letters (2) of recommendation. The essay should be no more than 500 words and should be based on why you chose WSCC for your first-year experience.

Need Base Scholarships (only available through Spring 2009)
Alabama state resident; EFC 0 (maximum need); 3.0 GPA or higher; full Time Status; award is for two (2) semesters only; any other type of free aid disqualifies; extreme hardships will be considered. 

Presidential Service
Ambassador application must be approved by committee; interviews will be conducted by scholarship committee; full time status; GPA must be 2.5 or higher.

IRAQI Operation Family Shield Tuition Waiver
Tuition scholarships shall be provided to children and spouses of Alabama service men and women who have been activated as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Such tuition scholarships shall be available only after all other federal financial assistance is applied. Requirements: FAFSA must be filed; application packet must be filed with the Financial Aid Office; packet must include: Official Copies of Military Orders; most Recent Tax Returns; Pell Grant Eligibility; Continued Activation Certification; spouse – Marriage Certificate; dependent – Birth Certificate.
