Wallace State Community College’s 2010/11 Common Read Initiative

The purpose of Common Read is to provide a common academic experience for all first-year students and to strengthen the academic atmosphere of the whole institution by focusing on a literacy initiative each year. Although the main goal of Common Read is to have fun and enjoy a great book, this program also encourages reading among students, creates a sense of community on campus, promotes discussion, provides a shared intellectual experience, and encourages cross-disciplinary dialogues. This year’s Common Read selection is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. Please look for more information about activities involved with this novel both in and outside the classroom. Remember campus involvement leads to student success, so get on board and start reading! Copies of the book are available for you at the WSCC bookstore.
