Learning Communities & Structured Learning
What is a WSCC Learning Community?
A WSCC Learning Community (LC) is a group of students (usually one 9:30 course) who participate in organized group-learning outside of the classroom.
What do students in Learning Communities do?
Students in a Learning Community, or LC, attend “community” events together. LC students share common experiences centered on their academics and community, achieve a deeper understanding of their course’s subject matter, build relationships with one another, and learn together.
In a Learning Community, students connect with their Wallace State community, faculty, and peers by attending or virtually-attending campus and community events together, and processing their experiences as part of their class.
Why take an LC?
• LC activities make learning personal. You’ll see how to use what you learn in the “real world”.
• You’ll use what you learn. See first bullet.
• You’ll explore course material in a more in-depth way.
• You’ll attend campus and off-campus events as part of your class.
• You’ll learn a lot about WSCC, your classmates, and yourself.

|Structured Learning Assistance Classes|
What are Structured Learning Assistance Classes?
Structured Learning Assistance classes or SLAs are classes that provide academic support to assist all WSCC students in difficult courses. The program features weekly required study and practice workshops where students receive free additional help in order to master course content and to develop learning strategies for the course. These are offered on a first-come basis, and study sessions are required in addition to regular class meetings.
