
When can I apply to the Medical Transcription (MTR) Program?
The Medical Transcription Program application and required documentation must be submitted by June 1st of the year in which you would like to begin the MTR program.
When does the MTR Program begin?
The MTR Program begins in the fall semester (August) of each year.
Are there any required courses that must be completed before beginning the MTR Program?
Yes. Students must successfully complete ORI 101 or 103, and MTR 275 prior to beginning the MTR Program.
How long does it take to complete the MTR Program?
It takes approximately 2 semesters to complete the MTR Program.
Can the MTR Program be completed online?
Yes. The MTR Program has an online option.
If I take online classes, am I ever required to come to the WSCC campus?
If you live more than 75 miles from campus, you are not required to come to the WSCC campus. If you live less than 75 miles from campus, you will be required to attend a minimum number (usually 2-3) meetings on campus.
How do I take the keyboarding (typing) proficiency test?

What documentation must accompany my MTR Program application?
The following documentation/information should be submitted directly to the Health Care Information (HCI) Programs prior to the June 1st deadline:
1. MTR Program Application
2. Unofficial copy of transcripts from all colleges previously attended, if
any.
3. Copy of high school graduation (transcripts) or GED certificate.
4. Copy of COMPASS test scores (reading and writing).
Where do I mail my application to the MTR Program?
By the June 1st deadline, you should mail your completed and signed application (with the required documentation) to the address listed on the MTR Program application.
If I decide to apply to the MTR Program, am I also required to apply to Wallace State?
Yes. The application process for the MTR Program is separate from the application process for Wallace State. If you have never attended Wallace State, you must first apply to the college. When applying to Wallace State, the following information is required to be submitted directly to the Admissions Office:
1. WSCC application *
2. Official transcripts from all colleges previously attended, if any
3. Proof of high school graduation (transcripts) or GED certificate
4. COMPASS test scores**
*If you have previously applied to Wallace State, you should submit a change of program form to the Admissions Office declaring MTR as your major.
**Taking all components of the COMPASS test is a requirement of admission to Wallace State unless you have passed math and/or English at another institution. If you have no transfer Math/English you are required to take the COMPASS and have a score on file even though the Medical Transcription Certificate Program does not require a Math and/or English score. Your score on the additional sections of the COMPASS test will not affect your standing in the Medical Transcription Certificate Program. The Reading and Writing components of the COMPASS test are required for admission to MTR Program.
What is the minimum GPA required for program admission?
A minimum of a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale is required for MTR Program admission on college courses taken.
Is the ACT or any other special entrance exam required for admission to the MTR Program?
The ACT is not an admission requirement for the MTR Certificate Program. All applicants must submit a COMPASS reading score of at least 76 and a COMPASS writing score of at least 76. The COMPASS test must have been taken within the 3 years previous to applying to the MTR program. If English 101 has been completed successfully, the COMPASS writing score is not required.
Does the COMPASS test have to be completed within a certain timeframe?
Yes. The COMPASS test must be taken within 3 years of planned MTR Program entry.
Do all applicants to the MTR Program have to submit COMPASS scores with their application?
Yes.
