Category: Headlines, November 2009

Hanceville, Ala.-- The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville was recently awarded 10-year reaccreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).

The WSCC Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, a six-semester, Associate in Applied Science degree program, was the first accredited sonography program in the state.

Established sonography programs must meet strict criteria to achieve 10-year accreditation, including two successful five-year reaccreditation cycles beyond initial accreditation and satisfactory outcomes averaged over a three-year period that meet Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) stated standards.

Students in the WSCC program utilize medical facilities throughout Central and North Alabama and Southern Tennessee for clinical training. Graduates are employed in hospitals, outpatient facilities, and clinics throughout the United States.
