HANCEVILLE -- Wallace State’s soccer team has been searching for its first shutout of the season. The Lions nearly achieved it on Tuesday afternoon. Wallace State held Hinds (Miss.) Community College scoreless until the final 22 seconds of the match and extended its winning streak to four games with a 4-1 victory. Alex Kuklinski scored two goals and added an assist for the Lions, while Andrew Crenshaw and Griff Gowers each accounted for a goal. Sutton Shults, Scott Nightingale and Brandon Briscoe finished with an assist apiece. “This was one of our most complete games. We came out with a lot of intensity and we’re fired up for it,” said Wallace State coach Barry Spitzer. “We had a comfortable lead at the half and made sure not to lose our focus in the second half. It was the first game where everyone was healthy and that also showed. I was pleased with effort. I feel like this team is on the right track.” For the second match in a row, Wallace State (5-2-1) scored an early goal. Gowers punched in the initial goal for the Lions just 90 seconds into the game. Kuklinski added a goal at the 22:55 mark in the first half and less than three minutes later Crenshaw weaved through Hinds’ defenders to push it to 3-0. Kuklinski scored Wallace State’s final goal with 14:04 remaining in the game. Austin Cole scored Hinds’ lone goal on a penalty kick. Wallace State goalkeeper Genaro Fernandez finished with 10 saves. Wallace State hosts Middle Georgia Community College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
