Andrew Crenshaw, Sutton Shults, Scott Nightingale and Greg Solano each accounted for goals, while goalkeeper Genaro Fernandez finished with 10 saves. Wallace State altered its playing rotation and allowed some key reserves to earn a start against the Scots. It worked out well as the Lions constructed a 3-0 lead early in the second half and collected their ninth win of the season. “One of the things we are focused on here in the last few games is being prepared for postseason play. I thought we accomplished a lot in this game. We played most of our reserves in key spots and executed well,” said Wallace State coach Barry Spitzer, whose team moved to 9-5-1. “We want everyone refreshed and able to contribute at different spots down the stretch. “We’ve got to use these last few matches to help us focus for the playoffs.” Crenshaw started Saturday’s scoring with a goal at the 33:45 mark in the first half. Crenshaw’s goal was set up by an assist from Nightingale. Shults extended the lead to 2-0 by executing on a penalty kick with 22:24 remaining in the first half. Nightingale handed Wallace State a 3-0 advantage by punching in a goal 11 minutes into the second half. After Covenant scored its lone goal with 7:11 remaining in the game, Wallace State’s Solano iced the match with a goal in the final minute. Chad Hill assisted Solano’s goal. Wallace State wraps up the regular season Wednesday with a match against Union University’s junior varsity beginning at 3 p.m. For more information about Wallace State athletics, visit www.wallacestate.edu
