The following Standards of Progress shall apply to all students unless the program in which the student is enrolled has higher standards of progress due to external licensure, certification, and/or accreditation requirements.
A student must maintain the following cumulative grade point average (GPA) dependent upon the number of hours attempted at the College in order to have a clear academic status:
Hours Attempted GPA
12-21 1.50
22-32 1.75
33 or more .2.00
Failure to attain the required GPA will result in the following actions:
Academic Probation will occur when a students cumulative GPA is below the GPA required for the number of hours attempted. Once placed on probation, students must attain the required cumulative GPA as well as a 2.0 GPA for the next semester of attendance. Failure to do so will result in Continued Academic Probation status.
Continued Academic Probation will occur when a student who is on Academic Probation remains below the GPA required for the cumulative GPA and hours listed above and/or if they fail to attain the required 2.0 GPA for the semester. Failure to attain the appropriate cumulative and semester GPA will result in Academic Suspension for one semester.
One Semester Suspension will occur when a student on Continued Academic Probation remains below the GPA required for the cumulative GPA and hours listed above and/or if they fail to attain the required 2.0 GPA for the semester. If a student is suspended in the spring semester and does not plan to attend WSCC in the summer semester, this will satisfy the one semester suspension and he/she will be re-admitted on probationary status the next semester of attendance. A student may appeal a suspension (see Appeal Process below). Upon readmission, the student must attain the required GPAs or a One Year Suspension will be imposed.
One Year Suspension will occur when a student is readmitted after being placed on a one semester suspension and the student fails to meet the required cumulative GPA and the semester GPA of 2.0. A one year suspension consists of three consecutive semesters. After serving the one year suspension the student will be re-admitted on a probationary status the next semester of attendance. A student may appeal a suspension (see Appeal Process below) but must do so prior to the first semester of suspension. Failure to do so indicates his/her acceptance of the one-year suspension.
A student on suspension may request consideration for readmission via a Petition for Academic Reinstatement. Download this form and submit it to the Director of Student Retention (LaDonna.Allen@wallacestate.edu) by the date established by the college. Forms may also be obtained in the following locations: Vice President for Students Office, Student Retention Office, and the Admissions Office. The petition will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee during a re-admission hearing during which the student will be given the opportunity to present a rationale and/or statement of mitigating circumstances in support of immediate re-admission. Review the Petition for detailed information.
