HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s volleyball team had its fantastic season end over the weekend at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship in Hutchinson, Kan.

Wallace State finished the season with a 43-10 record, winning the program’s 12th Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) tournament championship in 13 seasons. The Lions, coached by Randy Daniel, also earned their 14th straight ACCC regular-season title and made a 20th appearance at nationals.

The Lions dropped a pair of matches at nationals against Butler (Kan.) CC (18-25, 23-25, 13-25) and Northeastern (Colo.) Junior College (25-18, 15-25, 23-25, 20-25).

Sophomore Savannah Rutledge, a 2nd-team NJCAA All-American as a freshman and the 2021 ACCC Player of the Year, combined for 63 assists and 15 digs in the tournament, while libero Temperance Chatman finished with 44 digs.

Madeline Snow racked up 24 kills and 21 digs for the Lions, Haven Hall had 21 kills, Chloe Shadden finished with 13 digs and Madison Raybon added 11 kills combined.

Rutledge, Chatman and Hall each made history at Wallace State.

Rutledge, an Albertville native, is the program’s all-time assists leader with 2,792 career assists, and she led the nation in assists this season.

Chatman, a Jasper native, led the NJCAA ranks with 855 digs this season, setting the single-season and career digs mark (1,449) for the program.

Hall, a Geraldine native, had a conference-best 528 kills – which is the 3rd-best single-season mark in school history.

As the ACCC Player of the Year, Rutledge was named to the All-ACCC First Team in addition to Chatman and Hall.

Hall was the ACCC Tournament MVP in October and Rutledge and Chatman were All-Tournament selections in both the ACCC and Gulf Atlantic District Tournaments.

The team went 20-0 in ACCC play, extending their home conference winning streak to 114 matches - a stretch dating back to 2008.
