Carson, Green named to ACCS All-Alabama Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Wallace State students Michaiah Carson and Grayton Green are the college’s 2023 All-Alabama Academic Team Scholars. 

Carson and Green were recognized recently among the 48 top scholars across the Alabama Community College System at the All-Alabama recognition program at the Embassy Suites in Hoover. More than $53,000 total in scholarships was announced. 

“We’re so very proud of Michaiah and Gray, who are both outstanding representatives of Wallace State and exemplary servant-leaders,” said Kristen Holmes, vice president for students at Wallace State. “Their futures are incredibly bright.”

Both Carson and Green were selected from Wallace State by members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for the students’ demonstration of academic excellence and intellectual rigor, leadership and service, and for a commitment to extending their education beyond the classroom to benefit society. Each received a $1,000 scholarship for earning the All-Alabama designation.  

Michaiah CarsonCarson, of Allgood, plans to attend UAB to pursue a degree in biology and hopes to attend medical school specializing in anesthesiology.  A Coca-Cola Scholarship Foundation Bronze recipient, Carson earned an additional $1,000 scholarship. She is a member of the Wallace State Alpha Chi Tau chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Green, of Cullman, also plans to attend UAB where he’s received the UAB Presidential Transfer Scholarship. He plans to major in neuroscience and eventually join the Air Force. He works in the Wallace State Tutoring Lab, is a Lion Leader, treasurer of the WSCC Student Government Association, vice president of Alpha Chi Tau chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, president of WSCC Rotaract, and a member of Campus Ministries. 

The All-Alabama Academic Team recognition program was founded in 1995 to complement the All-USA Academic Team Program that is sponsored by USA Today, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the American Association of Community Colleges.

Registration for summer and fall semesters in underway. Summer 2023 classes begin May 24. Fall 2023 classes begin Aug. 18.
