For Tania Ramirez, walking across the stage today carries special significance. It’s something her parents have worked and sacrificed for so that she and her sisters have the opportunity to get a college education.

They are the reason she is here today, she said, and they are her motivation for going to college.

“I’m glad to be able to walk this stage and make my parents proud because they came from another country with nothing and not knowing the language to give me everything,” she said.

It’s also something her own sister Maria Cindy didn’t get to do in 2020, when her graduation ceremony became a drive-through event due to COVID-19.

Tania is graduating today with a degree in Business Entrepreneurship and plans to run her own business as a social media manager. She has been an active member of campus life at Wallace State. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and Rotoract, where she serves as the club’s social media manger and secretary. She was a member of the 2023 Homecoming Court, is an intern with the college’s Office of Advancement, and was recognized as Who’s Who Among WSCC Students. She’s also a founding member of the new VALOR Hispanic/Latino Club. She is also Guest Services Shift Lead at Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater.

“I hope many more people that come from different ethnic backgrounds continue to show their pride in their culture here.,” she said .“I'm proud of being Mexican, no matter where I go after college, I'll never forget where I come from."
