Five gold medalist among 10 winners for WSCC at SkillsUSA

Hanceville, AL — Ten students from Wallace State Community College brought home medals, including five gold medals, after competing over the weekend at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Atlanta, Ga. The students earned medals in five of the 12 college divisions in which Alabama colleges placed at the national competition, the most of any other in the state system.

“Congratulations to all of our national SkillsUSA winners,” said Jerry Murcks, Associate Dean of Applied Technologies at Wallace State. “We are proud of everyone who competed in this year’s competition.”

Students competing in the national Skills USA competition earned their way to Atlanta by winning gold medals in the Alabama SkillsUSA competitions in May in Mobile. WSCC had 21 students earn gold medals in the state competition.

Among the national winners were five students earning gold medals as national champions in their areas of competition.

Gold_Commercial Drone

Wallace State students Avery Hollis of Vinemont, center and Landon Holmes of Cullman, behind Hollis, earned gold medals in the Commercial Drone competition at the 2023 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held recently in Atlanta, Ga.

Gold_Criminal Justice
