Wallace State Volleyball Sweeps Lawson State in Conference Home Opener

Wallace State's Rachel Mecklenberg goes for a kill in a match earlier this season.
HANCEVILLE, Ala. - The Wallace State volleyball team delivered a commanding performance in its first home conference match of the season, defeating Lawson State 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-14) on Tuesday night.
Rachel Mecklenberg led the Lions’ balanced attack with 13 kills and an impressive .478 hitting percentage. Sofiia Sobol was close behind with 11 kills, hitting at a .526 clip. On the defensive side, Abby McDonald anchored the back row with eight digs, while Ali Price added seven and Valerie Rodriguez chipped in six.
Price also fueled the offense with 19 assists, while Mecklenberg contributed 12, showcasing Wallace State’s depth and efficiency.
Head coach Randy Daniel praised his team’s execution, especially at the service line.
“First home game vs a conference team, and winning is always a good experience. Our serving was the key to the win, and we felt we kept them out of the system a lot, which helped us. We were balanced on offense and just need to keep working on ball control to improve as we keep playing.”
With the sweep, Wallace State continued its strong start to conference play. The Lions return to the court on Wednesday with another ACCC matchup, hosting Bevill State.
