Wallace State to Offer Free Introductory Machining Course this Spring

Wallace State Community College is offering a free trial of sorts for those interested in a possible career in machining.
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College is offering an opportunity for students to learn more about Machine Tool Technology by providing a free introductory level class in machining along with essential workplace skills valued by employers.
“This spring, we’re offering hands-on instruction in machining through a special mini term program,” said Justin Burnett, chair of the Wallace State Machine Tool Technology program. “It’s designed for working adults, recent high school graduates and others curious about exploring a career in advanced machining.”
The program includes the Alabama Career Essentials (ACE) course from the WSCC Adult Education program to learn workplace and career readiness skills. Completion of the ACE course will lead to a tuition waiver for the Intro to Machining class that provides real shop experience in the basics of machining. Participants can also earn industry-recognized credentials, including precision measurement certifications.
“This is a great opportunity for students to experience hands-on learning in machining,” said Patti Wilkins, Director of Wallace State Adult Education.
“This program gives you the chance to try machining, earn credits toward a degree and open the door to a rewarding career in advanced manufacturing,” Burnett added.
Classes will begin on Feb. 17 and continue through April 30. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The deadline to apply for the program is Feb. 13.
