Wallace State Women Pull Away in Second Half for 60–44 Road Win at Gadsden State

GADSDEN, Ala. — Wallace State women's basketball used a dominant third quarter to pull away Monday night, earning a 60–44 road victory over Gadsden State in conference action.
The Lions controlled the opening quarter, jumping out to a 14–5 lead behind strong defensive pressure. Gadsden State responded in the second quarter, limiting Wallace State to just eight points and trimming the deficit to 22–20 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Wallace State seized control on both ends of the floor. The Lions overwhelmed the Cardinals in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 25–5 to build a commanding 47–25 advantage heading into the final period. Although Gadsden State outscored Wallace State 19–13 in the fourth quarter, the Lions maintained control and closed out the 16-point win.
Rebounding and ball movement were key factors in the victory. Wallace State finished with 43 rebounds and recorded 13 assists on 23 made field goals, consistently creating quality scoring opportunities while limiting second chances for Gadsden State.
Sinaya Gibson led all scorers with 17 points, while Leah Childress added 12 points, three assists and a steal. Idaysia Mercer posted a strong all-around performance with eight points, nine rebounds, six assists and a steal.
Kameron Sanders contributed six points and seven rebounds, while Zamyra Goode added six points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals. Bailey Tetro finished with six points, three rebounds and a steal, and Taylor Smith pulled down nine rebounds to go along with five points and a block.
With the win, Wallace State continued its strong play in conference action and will return home later this week.
Up Next: Wallace State hosts Southern Union on Thursday. Southern Union enters the matchup at 7–6 overall and 0–2 in conference play, coming off a 73–58 loss to Bishop State.
