HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College is being represented this week at the Miss Alabama competition by sophomore Anna Kate Taylor.

Taylor, 19, is a general studies major from West Point with plans to transfer to a university to pursue a degree in public relations and a career in sports media. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Chuck Ray.

“It’s been such an incredible honor to represent Wallace State Community College as Miss Wallace State,” Taylor said. “Wallace State has provided me with so many opportunities to grow as a student, leader, and young adult. I am grateful for the support and encouragement I have received throughout this journey. Carrying the Wallace State name on the Miss Alabama stage is something I am truly proud of.”

“Anna Kate is an outstanding representative of Wallace State,” said Kristen Holmes, Vice President for Students. “We’re cheering her on and wish her all the best at Miss Alabama.”

“It’s been a joy to work with Anna Kate this year,” said Candice Fomby, sponsor of Miss Wallace State. “She embodies the spirit, talent, and determination that has been so important to the success of candidates for Miss Alabama.”

During the week of competition, Taylor has completed the interview, onstage question, and health and fitness portions. She will compete in the talent and Rising Star portions Thursday evening, followed by the evening gown competition Friday.

A member of the Wallace State Singers, Concert Choir, and Pride Line dance team, Taylor will perform “California Dreamin’” in the talent competition.

Her community service initiative is “Voices of Tomorrow: Empowering Alabama’s Young Voters.” Taylor said she chose this platform to educate and empower the next generation of voters.

The top 13 competitors will be announced Saturday during the final night of competition, when the new Miss Alabama will be crowned. The winner will represent the state in the Miss America competition.

Competitions are being held at the Leslie S. Wright Fine Arts Center at Samford University at 7 p.m. through Friday. Tickets are available at www.missalabama.com.
