Learn to safely administer medications and support healthcare teams with the Medication Assistant course. Designed for those entering patient care of upskilling in current roles, this course prepares learners to perform limited medication administration under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

The Medication Assistant course at Wallace State trains students to safely administer medications in healthcare settings under the supervision of licensed nurses. Students learn safe medication preparation, measuring prescribed doses (within scope), administration techniques, infectious control. Documentation. Patient safety protocols, and communication with patients, families, and the care team.

This program includes 100 total contact hours, consisting of:

  • 60 hours of lecture/lab
  • 40 hours of clinical experience

Admission Requirements
Participants must be at least 17 years old and hold a valid driver’s license, as well as a high school diploma or GED, to enroll in this course.

Preparation for the MAC Exam

Graduates of this program are prepared to sit for the Medication Assistant Certification Exam (MACE), administered by Pearson VUE for the Alabama Board of Nursing. Training aligns with ABN-approved competencies and clinical requirements, giving students the skills and confidence to earn the Medication Assistant, Certified (MAC), permit and expand employment opportunities.
